Melissa's research focuses on developing multilayer interfaces for carbon fibre composites. Each layer is designed to impart a specific functionality to the composite material, essentially designing an interface tailor made for a required application.
Melissa has completed a B.Sc in Chemistry, Honours (Chemistry) and is now furthering her studies completing a PhD. Her research focuses on the synthesis of small molecules used to functionalise the surface of carbon fibre, using electrochemistry. Improving the adhesion of carbon fibre to resin matrix, while also introducing specific functionality to the composite such as electromagnetic shielding.
